How the Faire Happens
When the faire opens, Petite Lyon truly becomes a village for nine days of the year and everyone involved has worked long and hard to give visitors a memorable living history experience. There are many, many volunteer roles in order to produce the faire and keep the organization running smoothly. Volunteers are the backbone of this organization and their year round contributions are what makes the faire successful.
Each season, approximately 250 volunteers donate time, materials and talent to make the faire happen. Before the opening gate, volunteers work on site construction, landscaping, grounds development and maintenance, painting, various fundraising and promotional events. During the faire, most of the volunteers are in the performance guilds, however they also fill roles in the Box Office, Stage Management, Kids Kingdom, and Volunteer Support (La Guilde de L'Orange) parking and all the other jobs. We are now gearing up for 2007 and getting ready for major fundraising events to round out the year.
There are also opportunities for those interested in being in the public eye without developing a character, and our merchants are always looking for people to work for them during the faire. Please let us know if you want to be contacted for one of these positions.
